Repro Hell
I've spent the entire weekend engaged in a dominant/submissive relationship with FedEx Kinko's, where i am clearly the bottom. It started with an undeniable need. I need to have 6 binders worth of doublesided mixed document (word and ppt) copies by 5 am Monday morning. Documents that were not completed or finalized until 1:30 am Saturday morning.
I think, ok, i'll do it online, that will make sure i get it in and it gets done before saturday night. I download the online app, start to set things up, and it can't connect to Kinko's. I call the 24 hr Kinko's on 24th and 7th avenue (24/7 - 24th&7, cute eh?). Anyway, they tell me i need to go into a service ctr. in person and bring my USB drive.
Way too toasted from prolonged nights on end working, i decided to catch a few hrs sleep and go in to an office around noon Sat. First Kinko's i went to tells me that there will be a 500 dollar set up fee. Er? No, that won't work. But you can do it self service they say. At 30 cents a minute on one of their computers. Ack.
I go to another Kinko's and cry and the guy was friendly enough to try to print a master for me and then let me do all the double siding copying yada yada. Halfway thru the job, he tells me the printer broke. No printing tonight. I could leave it with them tho, and they'd have it ready by Monday afternoon. Er? No, that won't work.
I cry. I go home. I try to print it myself on my old crap printer. Old crap printer dies. I cry some more. At this point I am certain god hates me.
So at 4 am Sunday morning, i try the online app again. This time it works. Although i have to load every document separately.. It takes me two hours. But I have 70 odd print jobs sent to the queue with promise of completion by 1p Sunday. All i will have to do then is get 4 more doublesided copies of the whole shee-bang made on Sunday afternoon and three hole punch and bam, i'll be done.
1pm Sunday i go into the Kinko's. Print job is done but not collated. I spend around an hour figuring that out. Get set up with them to make the copies. They can have it ready by 10am Monday. Er? No, that won't work. But i can copy it myself. they say, and then they can hole punch it.
2 hrs and 70 dollars of copies later.... i hand it over to them for three hole punching. It will be ready by 9 pm tonight.
I am Kinko's bitch.
