Enhance Your Calm, John Spartan
I came of age in the eighties and thus consumed a fairly steady diet of
impending apocalyptica laced with a voyeuristic fetishism. Well into the nineties, i was well
coached by media and entertainment that sooner or later (and likely
sooner) someone somewhere was gonna fuck something up royal, War Games defcon 4 style, and all of
us were going to hell in a handbasket. Aside from the
ever-present burning firmament fireball possibility of nuclear
annihilation, there was the ever-burgeoning hubris of our disposable
culture trashing itself into Escape from New York scenarios and/or a strain of Running Man type gladiatorial glee.
So, really, i don't understand why people like Bill O'Reilly or Greta Van Sustern still freak me out.
Valmorphonization Nearly Complete

If you think LGP looks different lately, you would be correct. That is because LGP - like many bloghorn blogs - is being valmorphonized into a mojira blog. Now, i don't know what that means anymore than you do, my fellow 'mericans... but there is one thing you can be sure of - and that is that it will save the world from terrorism, so get off your ass and do your duty.
So, for the next few days, if things are a little hinky around here every now and then - if the layout doesn't look quite the same or if the feed doesn't validate... well, you just better remember, buddy - freedom isn't free.
General Thoughts
Noting of late that my neighborhood is only slightly above sea level... is in fact mostly landfill over a stretch of salt-meadows that used to be part of Petrus Stuyvesant's Bouwerie No. 1 Farm...
This, therefore, is an open appeal to whatever force(s) run the universe - i've not so much hubris as to presume or ask to be completely spared from any trial or tribulation that may befall this region - but in general, jeesux, could you try to make sure that any catastrophes you've got planned fall near the 1st of the month? Because, see, if they occur anytime after the 10th, i am pretty much fucked in terms of get-outa-dodge money...
... for me, from my marie antoinette position here, i have to admit that the scale of the disaster and itz longer range repurcussive impacts still havent sunk in... am still looking for a yardstick... although, in the last 24 hrs, i have seen the intro on this entry go from saying
- "one of the top three most destructive named hurricanes to make landfall in North America" .... to
- "the most destructive named hurricane to make landfall in North America"... to
- "the most destructive hurricane in North American history" ... to
- "the worst natural disaster to hit the United States to date"
