Blog Views

Is it a fad or a real historical trend?  Whatever you think, there have been discussions about the role of blogging with respect to journalism, ever since weblogs first began to evolve from "Recent Site Updates" to "Do-it-Urself Punditry".  I will not even try to form an opinion on this - there are far more veteran and intelligent people out there thinking about and working on these things.

I am interested in how memes move, tho.  And I think the blogosphere offers some useful data there.. altho, again, I am not even about to throw my paltry efforts (aside from prolific and indiscriminant linking) into the great work being done analytically and critically on this.

Instead, I plan to be a voluminous progenitor of blogosphere mis/dis-info and parody.. itz my job.  Hail Eris.

To that end... who cares about bias, when you can go strate to the SOURCE!?!?  For your pleasure, thusly, posted below are blogs of some of the movers and shakers of today's big news.  Enjoy!

Some Assembly Required

I am so tired of the continued kvetching about the 'bias' in media coverage...  of course, whether the bias is 'right' or 'left' or 'centrist', how you percieve it depends on where you're coming from.. and I think that it's important to realize that 'where you are coming from' can be mutable, as well.

For instance, today I am a -0.50/-4.67 on the Political Compass* essentially meaning that today I am slightly leftist and significantly libertarian... I say 'today', as I have taken this test three or four times and actually varied between -2.00 and -0.50 on the left.. the libertarian side of me, however has been relatively consistent varying between -4.00 and -4.70...  this tells me a lot about how the way I see things can change - the questions on the test are static, and many are ambiguous, the longer you think about them.  I also like to think it means that as far as left/right arguments go, I am at least trying to be objective.  While as far as libertarian/authoritarian arguments go, I am pretty much fully on the 'freedom defined is freedom denied' tip.

But a bigger question for me is why would I want unbiased, centrist news coverage, anyway?  I would much rather have the availablity of many different biases to analyze and counterpoint each other.  Truly unbiased/centrist coverage would be gnarlier propaganda - the ultimate vanilla mediocrity.  It's the very diversity of opinion and argument that drives 'truth'.

I mean (and this is likely coming from the libertarian side of me) shouldn't it be at my discretion to determine how much of something I wanna believe?  The onus is on the individual reader/viewer to make their own damn decisions, and anyone who isn't skeptical of the authority of everything deserves the caged veal perspektive they get... (yep, thatz definitely the libertarian side of me talking there)...

Knowledge is true opinion.

CFP#8 Goes International

Cypberfunkapuss #8 (aka 'Ion Diode', 'Timeteo', 'Grand Mason of the Wandering Moose Clan') has now entered the next phase of his Chatauqua.  As of this weekend, he will be in Kiwi Country!  The NZ portion of his trip is the grooviest, in many ways - he is basically hiking his way through the islands.  We expect many beautiful pictures and (characteristically brief) philosophical journal entries to come out of this.

Now, some people might say that a journey around the world at a time like this is taking a lot of risk.  But as recent email from CFP#8 reminds us - real life includes challenge:

I am a tourist. I am a traveler. Whatever you call me , I am not  "home". Although , I am as far from my origin as I have ever been, I am still in the good old U.S. of A. That's all about to change. Tonight I will cross over the equator and the international date line on my way to New Zealand. The place of our dreams.

No more familiarity of a house to come back to every night. No more ease of having a friends car to tool around in during the day. But oh well, what's life without a few challenges? ..... television :)

The pictures from Maui are posted on the site now and are most excellent - i encourage u to check them out.  (Note that already Tim's hair is getting longer and more aggressive.  By the end of his journey, I expect he will look like a full-fledged yeti.  Also - a couple great shots of Reu and Kuh-On-Er looking properly beach bummish).

And a note to our one occasional Kiwi reader - if you see my boy over there, give him a hug for me (and maybe an espresso).

National Estrogen Deficit

Nothing quite like waking up to police helicopterz overhead... especially when a tad hungover.  But, u know what?  I have never felt safer!!  Nothing says 'safety' quite so well as hovering copterz.

You kno... in general, my quality of life continues to just skyrocket over here in the free-est city in the werld... rock on.

Autopilot

I have a deadline 4 a current project and the RFP 4 another job both due early a.m. tomorrow.  Thus my usual punctilious contribution to the cacaphony of the blogosphere will be muted somewhat over these next 48 hrs or so... I know it will be missed ...

Anywayz - i invite any of our three (3!) loyal readers to either browse previous entries (i like this one, or this one)... OR maybe you could utilize this open thread to start a high pitched shrill discussion...  yeah!  that would be nice!  I want to see you guys get all up in each otherz urlz - i want my comment threads to smoke with flame.. hit me!

Post-Humous Ad Hominem Pro Vitriolic BS

kno what makes me wanna just hurL?  itz so gross i can't even link to it directly.. instead i will link to that righteous UPSTANDING citizen militiaman Jesus' General.. the permalink on the entry where he handles this feces seems broken, so you will have to scan for the title:  "The liberal media is making people look caucasian" from 3/25/03... amen, brutha.

UPDATE:  I just saw a CNN segment 'rating the media coverage'... the thing that stuck out was the statement (made by expert whose name i was too busy to look up and see) that those against the war are 'tuning out war coverage'...  possibly... but they wouldn't say that if they kept up with the stats on the truly unbiased media coverage...

Mental Cramps

I am trying to watch TV... but I am having trouble getting my head around my options... my braine just doesn't seem to have the extension necessary to encompass this choice, next to this choice, as opposed to this one.  In fact, I may have pulled a muscle.. fear i will need to resort to a documentary on Discovery.. jeezus, why do i feel like i just woke up in the Matrix and am having trouble removing that phreaky umbilical port cable thingamahjiggy outa my hypothalamus?

UPDATE 9:31 EST:  OMG! i am down with the qHate blog on this - itz hard 2be a playa hata when itz so funny... (listen past the innocuous.. heh.. 'chatter'... at the beginning)..

Gulf War 2 (aka WW 2.5) Flash Simulator

Wondering how things are gonna turn out?  Luckily, the team over at idleworm have created a Flash animation "Gulf War 2 (aka WW 2.5)" simulator!

"This is a projection of the most likely outcome of a new war in the Gulf. I used sophisticated temporal algorithms and historical semiotic analysis to achieve an accuracy rating of 99.999%. It's the mother of all Flash games."

Warning - completion of the simulation may take longer than expected...

On the domestic front - try "Ashcroft Online 1.0" !

Hyper-reality TV

Embed feedz, sweaty salivate over their General Issue gas mask gear, fondle lovingly the ordnance while
beaming back, filtered thru studio headquarters, command cable central commentators
fluffing the retired military expert-speak with deft play-by-play stroking.

Inbetween magnificent volleyz deep jetz tanks rumble anticipatory -
this breaking news engagement fire smoke climax
giddy armchair warriors pensive

watch people die off-stage,
"live"...

Speaking of Visceral...

Of course, I have problems with this war...  but the war is a symptom of deeper issues we have with governance and security, both globally and locally... I believe that mass protests have their place - I believe in the right to assemble and freedom of speech.. however, I am hesitant to endorse these sort of activities right now.  This city is already straining under the weight of extra security costs - and this simply adds to the risks of terroristic acts.. It will lead to stupid clashes in the street between the police and civilians.  And, people - the police are not the enemy (unlike the 60's - where there was some argument that this was the case)!  In fact - law enforcement is our first line of defense against terrorism.  Already in New York - they, as a group, have had many casualties in the war against terrorism.

The real enemy is our own frikkin apathy.  In point of fact - our PREVIOUS apathy.. where were the 10s of 1000s of protesters when our Legislative branch benignly expanded the powers of Executive branch in 2K1?  Where were/are they when the joke of a National Budget poorly accounts for added state and local security costs, or the costs of this war?  Where were they when Ashcroft began his misguided slashing of the Bill of Rights (that is not over yet)?

Now I am NOT saying not to assemble, not to protest, not to speak out.  Just the opposite - but do it in appropriate ways.  Find a way to make your voices heard that does not detract from your argument.  It's a democracy, people, get involved in some way outside of the government equivalent of 'heckling from the stands'.  Join appropriate action groups, write congressional representatives, research and inform yourselves, create media, write, paint draw.  Teach children.  Teach neighbors.  Teach yourselves.

Now i am going to the Opera, and all of you over on Broadway better not f*ck up my train ride.

Leges of Responsibility

Our first response to fear is visceral, knee-jerk and usually thoughtless... but ultimately you gotta get self-reflexive on this shite, and take it to the intellectual mat...  herez what i think:

Sooner or later, we will have to wake up and admit that we are not alone in this world... and, no, we really can't take our half outa the damn middle just because we got the biggest boomstick and slickest media...

... there will be a point at which 'protecting' ourselves this way becomes the exact thing that threatens our security...  It's complicated, sure - but always better late than never to consider the balance of things...

Monkee See, Monkee Do

My grannie used to yell at me.. said since i was the oldest of the gaggle of grandchildren, i should know better... that i needed to realize my actions set precedents that would be followed by the others.. of course, she was talking about my 'potty mouth' at the time.. but the argument seemed to apply in other areas as well... still... it sure was funny to see mikey say "F*CK" at the dinner table..

Media OD

Close call there - found out that i could supplement my cable intake with this online mongo-coverage portal... and this one...  and before i knew it, i was feeling a little clammy and lite headed... sure.. i knew i might be doing too much...

It started out as simply looking up articles to counterpoint the segment.. i told myself it was under control.. but it escalated so quickly - soon i was doing more and more page views... greater and more complex channel flipping involving the "fav" and "last" programmable buttons on the remote control... i mean.. it got serious...

Before i knew it, i was watching tv, listening to the 'embed' uplinks, looking up the reporter's bio on the site, printing out transcripts of his previous field reports, all the while googling for "M1A1 Abrams Battle Tank" and various ordnance...

... thank god they intervened... and i am not sure how, but i think it's working... i think that this is blog better than methadone...

  1. Off Topic/FYI:  W32/Ganda ...
  2. On-Off Topic/FYI:  hmmmmm....

UPDATE 4:51pm ESTWhassup w/this?!?  herez a downplay... and another.. leading to second Q - what is involved in 'decontaminating' someone?  a nice thorough scrub?

Meanwhile.. Bck @ the Ranch...

Fog of war notwithstanding, some people are keeping track of things..  If therez one thing i have learned from being a neurotic intellectual most of my life itz that the truly dangerous shit never comes strate at you.. it comes from the side.. from behind.. from left field... you never see the one with your name on it...

Spookin the Spookz

Via Christopher at Back to Iraq 2.0 - Rand Beers resigns, quietly...

talking w/Masha the other nite, asking her about the CCCP and growing up there..  both of us asking then how a democracy can be an imposed thing.. because any imposed thing is by that very aspect a totalitarian thing...

strange sadness lately - why are we on this revenge trip so hardcore

Because, I am just not that kind of  _angry_ anymore... at first i was..
i mean, i was here - i saw the smoke for 6 months after, breathed the smell of burning steel and plastic.
For weeks on end I avoided downtown, repeatedly monitored which subways to ride,
and held my anxiety at arm's length whenever the E train wld mysteriously re-route around Penn Station,
the PA announcing that 'due to an incident at 34th street, this train will be non-stop to Columbus Circle'
or some other bizarre disclaimer...

i lost my job, i lost friends, i lost life as i knew it in the space of 2 hours on sept 11th, 2001...

and still...

i am _not_  this kind of angry, anymore...

:/

dawn over baghdad.. never thought i would see it this way, via NBC.. jeez... some complaint, it seems, from the NBC commentators - hardly shocked and awed.. if the one or two attacks so far were upon leadership 'targets of opportunity'.. if they were successful and manage to avert the more destructive edge of the whole shock/awe endeavor.. i, for one, will be fully shocked/awed...  and grateful...  hang in there salaam...  bush's address to nation at 10:15p was perfunctory and impenetrable...  i will now drink an entire bottle of wine, i think..

UPDATE 11:34 EST:  I say, this is timely... via the qHate blog (a group blog outa Kuwait)... a Gulf War drinking game!

UPDATE 12:30 am EST 3/20/03:  Now i am shocked and awed...  i definitely underestimated our sneakiness...

In Case of Emergency...

Being here in NYC, or anywhere really 4 that matter, itz good 2 plan ahead... gotta admit it makes me a little nervous to see Bloomberg, GWB & Tom Ridge having their own private kafe klatch this morning - what do they kno?  how is NYC involved?...

Via Atrios - just what "red alert"  means to the average citizen...  evacuation is a (remote) possibility.. I work from home 80% of the week and try to stay in my pajamas as much as possible... i guess i should start getting dressed and putting on a bra daily just in case... my god.. the terrorists have  won...

Note 2 family & friends - also to file under Just In Case - of course if anything goes down, like last time u won't be able to get thru on the telephone.. like last time, email/IM etc are your best modes to attempt contact.  You can also call my mom or Sam-i:  very likely that he will have better sense of whatz up over here, or will have heard from me..  xoxoxo

Cranial LEaKaGe

Gotta take a moment & back inside my own head again.  seems i've been renting out space elsewhere...  When unattended my mind wanders... has illicit fantasies that it then projects back onto me... my left hand doesn't know what my right hand is up to... but of course, they are both out there plotting against me.

Writing is not necessarily something to be ashamed of, but do it in private and wash your hands afterwards.

Cypberfunkapuss #8 Update:  Timz in Maui w/Reu & Kuh-on-er.. will call them thursday or so check the status... w/survey launch, i am to lazy/busy to chat/email even tho i see Reuz terminal online...  damn, Maui, even as a concept sounds *nice* right now...

tho - gotta admit itz been so funky wonderful here in NYC these last two days - in the 60s i think... all windows open strange new york unthawing smells, fecundity a coming... yesterday at farmer's market found myself flirting with idea of buying some potted flowers for the windsill even tho it would be a very selfish and inhumane act as i will most certainly kill them quickly via neglect.. itz not just a little bit wanton and slovenly..  lascivious, even.  Maybe itz the time of the month, but I have decided to award myself CompleteLicense to SelfIndulge my AnyFickleWhim for a few dayz.  decompressssssss...

must plan trip to A-town.. i got the money, just gotta make the time.. werking and negotiations on two new projects continue, scheduling still in the air..  so many places i'd like to go tho in a non-business capacity.. hard when u gotta keep ur project pipeline up and running...

last nite veej frustrated at people (pronounce "people here",  brit expat style) 'how come you don't hear about this stuff in the rest of the media?' (pronounce "CNN, MSNBC, FOX")  i bookmrkd him some pages, blogs that are pulling press and all manner of reporting (believable or otherwise).. i say everything is spin and bias - but that is why we like it.. we imagine we have the requisite combination of disbelief suspension and socratic skepticism to auto-inform ourselves...

sudden revelation... i go first to the blogosphere and newsgroups for my press lately.. as a delivery mechanism it rox - you've basically got the entire blogosphere doing the research and indexes like Blogdex, Daypop, Memeufacture, Popdex/etc doing the headlining... you can look at the memeflow and all that.. important to realize:

    1. Just because it's well-linked, doesn't mean it's true
    2. Blogs are (for the most part) more journal than journalism
    3. Someone's textual persona is an avatar that doesn't reflect actual dimension
    4. Spelling, grammar, style, and such conventions are important, but merely tools for logic.. if it connex, if my mind groks, i dont care what it loox like.

UPDATE*2:  For those of you not wanting to miss the GWB's Official Back2Iraq speech tonite, but having trouble juggling your St. Pattyz party plans... Judicious leaking of tonitez speech has begun.. get ur Preemptive Policy Preview here...

UPDATE*3:  (Via Incublogula) Kevin Sites (journalist blogger on the front lines) gives ominous entre nous down-low about the all hell breaking loose in Iraq timing... "shortly after the President speaks"...

Legs of Responsibility

"And we hope tomorrow the U.N. will do its job. If not, all of us need to step back and try to figure out how to make the U.N. work better as we head into the 21st century. Perhaps one way will be, if we use military force, in the post-Saddam Iraq the U.N. will definitely need to have a role. And that way it can begin to get its legs, legs of responsibility back." (16Mar2K3, GWB)

It was a beautiful day here in east village – warm short sleeve situation, sidewalk cafes, talking & chilling at Tompkins park, or on the street.

Now back a la casa and must get down and dirty on this deliverable thatz due for Client by 9am.  It shouldn’t take but a couple hrs, but I also have to get tax info ready for meeting w/CPA in afternoon.  I am not as good at the 6 day workweek as I used to be.. getting lazy in my old age…

And casually I think … 'so we are probably going to be at war this week'… Whether it's right or wrong, good idea or notnone of that matters past a certain point you really just pray and plan contingencies.  This is how I am thinking about it.  Xtra water, canned food, flashlite.  Toilet paper.  Data back-ups.  Tobacco, wine, and comfortable running shoes.  Elemental things like that.

Am twitchy – won't deny it.  Feeling the jackt up vibe all around.  Seems like therez a lot more people getting drunk on the street these last two weekends.  Thatz the canary in the coalmine right there, if you ask me.

SHLD B SLEEPING UPDATE:  Cruised by Salam's  Blog (Where is Raed?)... seems things are a little more jackt up over there... understandably.

"on 'shabab TV- youth TV' there were announcements that the NUIS (national union of iraqi students) is selling. water pumps and tanks, hard helmets, small electrical generators and most surreally Chemical-biological attack protection chambers, in the picture they showed it looked like an octogonal barrel layed on its side with two bunks in it and some starnge equipment on the outside. no prices just a phone number. "

ALSO: For corrections on my mutilated/Babelfished Deutsch up top look under Jonas' fsk files on Clusterfsk.net .. also includes groovy new MOAB - a Blawgregator with all ur favs...  Werd up 2 the J-man 4 grammatik-checking my ass... ;)

Terror Advisory Metrics

The homies (aka "Homeland Defense Department") are realizing that the Terror Advisory system may not be adequate for the strange excluded middle state between Orange/High and Red/Severe, particularly once we attack Iraq.  Let us be clear about this - it's too late and difficult to add another color (think of all the money we'd lose completely rebranding!), but we definitely need a way to describe the state of escalated Terror Risk that will be experienced between 'High' and 'Severe'.  Public input is desparately needed, so we are providing a poll to help Tommy werk it out.  This poll is set up to run for 7 days... however, should we attack Iraq sooner than that, all your input will be moot.  So vote early and vote often!

What best describes the terror risk level between 'High' (Orange) and 'Severe' (Red)?
'High and a half' ( informally - 'Plaid')
'Escalated' (informally - 'Proliferated Orange')
'Redline' (informally - 'almost baby, almost')
'Orange plus' (informally - 'Orange + Vitamins B6, B12 and Niacin')

Contrafy-ing the Hateration

Note 2 self:  I can already see that one problem with the "ThHHrWu" (or whatever we're gonna call it) is that Friday blog posting may be delayed as a result of too much ThHHrWu activity... also - wit and mental agility may likewise be impaired today... we will have to experiment with tolerances and user settings... FYI - fonts are all screwed up today, too, very likely also an effect of ThHHrWu..

Part of the developing LGP Manifesto:  spawn new werdz, promote the evlutn of SMS coupled w/fuhnetik spllngs and miscegenate theories/ideas/etc/amap...  just thought we'd mention that while we're thinking of it...  it would suck to fergit parts of our manifesto just cuz we didnt take notes.. i mean, everyonez gotta hava mnfsto..

One of the many compelling ideas presented by Douglas Adams in his Hitchhikers Guide series was in "The Restaraunt at the End of the Universe" ... 4 me, neatest part was that of course you read the title and think "End" is locative (spatial), when in fact itz temporal (time)... anyway, even at 17 i remember thinking how funny we were how we alwayz our species turn everything into a spectacle - something to see... (Latin root:  spectare)... even the (or perhaps most especially the) gruesome or macabre stuff... Anyway - Want a ringside seat for the upcoming show?  Here is one, here is another... i think they are both syndicated, so may be, you kno, skewed.. whatevah.. caveat lector

And on the Douglas Adams tip... pause 4 a moment and savor the following quote from same said book:

"To summarize: It is a well-known fact that those people who most want to rule people are, ipso facto, the least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job. To summarize the the summary of the summary of the summary: people are a problem."

Can I get an 'Amen'?  and why didn't we hear MORE about this?!

Now, i am not one to dis paranoid conspiracy theories... in fact (add this to the manifesto) it is my job to promote them as much as possible (hail eris).. but, still... I would file THIS under "WTF?!"...

And I usually am not one to pick sides... but itz gonna take a whole lot more than some petty bickering to make me stop eating brie... i am serious - this is something that i WILL go to jail for...

Press Kit: Compensatory Propaganda

Byline:  Pwylla (P J Dry), Courtesy of Dry Inc., Cyberdissemination Division, 2K3-n

Itz clear therez a WAR on.  I mean the whole werld is frikkin twitchy - every corner of it. If you've still got yerself a nice thick skin of denial, avoidance or paralytic phobia going on, then more power 2 ya, but just watch five minutes of the British Parliament on CSPAN and you'll get urslf a blinding bucket of truth.

Did you ever notice that when members of the Hse of Commonz are pissed or freakt out they start sputtering?.. but at the same time their vocab gets more eloquent and therez this impressive way they have of getting all staccato on their syllables at the same time.. I mean, itz like this flustered, spitting, hissing thing that looks damn dangerous.. kinda reminded me of a rattlesnake..

They were grilling Tony Blair hardcore, doing this kind of piranha thing (it was all very docu-drama, I am telling you).. asking really tough questions about the US's motivations, repurcussions and the dissolution of the global state-structure & global oversight in favor of Pax Americana.. And it hit me...

Someone on our side of the pond is not doing his/her/its job..   According to the White House website* (excise below), communicating our global motivations falls within the purview of the  Office of Global Communications:

Why?
The President understands the importance of conveying America's message to the world. Better coordination of our international communications will help convey the truth about America and the goals we share with people everywhere. He knows we need to communicate our policies and values to the world -- with greater clarity and through dialogue with emerging voices around the globe. Created by Executive Order of the President, this new office within the White House coordinates strategic communications with global audiences, integrating the President's themes into new and ongoing programs.

Well, thatz all well and fine.. but I saw so many sputtering Great Britons today that I have reason to fear our propaganda machine is not operating at an optimal level... and it really can't be blamed - I mean it's only a few months old.  In times of turmoil, average citizens have to roll up their sleeves and do their patriotic portion of the work of getting the werld back on trak again-

For Immediate Distribution - Compensatory Propaganda!!

TERMS OF USE:  It is important that we try to communicate our true intentions to our global brethren - we would really rather just hang out and have a good time.  Chilling like bob dylan.  Knowhaddimean?  And altho The Editor usually adheres to a strict "Pull Not Push" communications strategy, we will compromise ourselves for the good of our nation, and the betterment of our international relations.

DIRECTIONS:  Take the following links and send them to 10 people that you know telling them that they have to forward them to 10 other people that they know.  Tell them that if they 'break the chain' they will contract runaway cases of foot fungus, gout, scurvy, and the croup...

Please.. don't actually do this.. just send them to who you want, if you want.. i can't stand those chain things - and i feel dirty and whorish even saying it in jest... i will never b clean again...

  1. GYWO (shout out to the RRPF 4 the hedz up)
  2. Sex Files - The Phantom of the Orgasm (Clean - Not smut!  from Queendom.com, internet lifestyle magazine)
  3. My Frikkin 15 Minutes (our ugly red-headed sister blog that will grow into a swan one day if shaun-o getz time 2 werk on it)
  4. Jesus Christ SuperStore ("putting the fun back in fundamentalism!" Offering products from a variety of world theologies - not just christian.. but FYI - they're out of Ganesh..  I had to get Shiva instead)
  5. The Skeptic's Dictionary (just in case things get as surreal as 2K+ yrs of eschatology has promised.. )
  6. Apocamon:  The Final Judgement (Pokemon armageddeon style - flash site)

Please stay tuned in coming weeks, as we step up our efforts to chill the f+k out, we will be posting more Compensatory Propaganda for your willful p2p & linking needs..

gotcha trpt N-side my ''Meme'' _BOX_

I used to be a dialectic observer/or I may yet still be.

LOGIC:  Therez is alwayz an arch-enemy.  someone other than you...  itz simple - us against them binary oppositions.  Because even maggie simpson hates that one baby that lives down the street with the monobrow (see also:: Bondo, frans).

and the star bellied sneeches, who as a group had very little physical differentiation but still found a way to divide into _have/have not_ so that

4 evryone there is an "Other".  Antynom-ically dia-opposed.  Thatz why the Cold War detente worked.  All that lovely mono y mono tension.

but now we've something a little different.  a multilateral stochastic gnarliness vectoring omni*directionally.  itz not really us/them anymore.. now itz more like I against every otherfrikkinbuddy else cuz u are all off ur r0ck3rz..

paula is a dominant fetish tv with a chamber in the east of england
paula is not a purist about scratchboard technique
paula is

werkbench entry stardate captainz log, when i was young, i read all the way from DUNE until Chapterhse... simply because of that first epigraph..

"those who can not remember the past are condemned to repeat it."  (c. Frank Herbert)

in truth it all IS predictable.  at least in geological time.  gotta think LongNow.

See, Wiki Wikiz not a thing, itz a way of life.. and plus it just soundz frikkin cool.  your mind just can't say 'Wiki' once... you can't have just one .. zlszy always gotta be collaboratin and aggregatin.. if itz static then itz ded.

And.. where do u cultivate ur memez, or do you simply let them grow wild?  do you use litez artificial & how? or how do u get ur daily allotment.  are YOU taking notes!?!  of ultra viole(nce)t rayzzzzzz.

I remember that by high school, i had learned to be above it, around it..  to own it, all mine, both sides MY subject::object ___ ''i got an open mind why don't you ALL step inside''___ and edie, who taught me the major arcana... quoting Debbie Harry.. saying something saying something about

how there will never be peace until_we'll never stop fighting_unless ''little green men come down from the sky..''

stochastic kick to the system from the outside, 3rd party styleeee...

Every now and then you get a chance to be a part of something much bigger than u... I helped find ET w/Seti - atmyHome/on my desktop/my Central Procesor gnawing on a chunk o data in itz spare time/humming pretty groovie screensavr.  theyre going to phone home now.

April, A Year Ago

(2002, Pwylla J. Dry, Avenue A, NYC)

In the autumn

after the towers fell,

we wandered the city

from happy hours

until closings

quietly shocked.

We were in between,

we were displaced.

You left for the desert,

and I loitered in the east village

collecting take out menus.

But, even now, the sirens still echo

down 2nd Avenue,

their frantic endurance

resounding.

From my window at night

I saw the pillars of light

the city sent up in homage

disappear into the clouds.

With spring, I became

preoccupied with sex,

the desire for touch

in the sudden absence

of so many

unknown souls.

In Tompkins park,

leaf buds on spindly trees

over the heads of

homeless and junkies.

I was beyond it.

I vaulted right past despair,

began my tactile

inquisition

of various men,

not knowing necessarily

in the seeking.

Better, in fact,

to not know too much,

not remember names,

but rather, count bodies.

In the spring,

and you left drunken

messages on my cell phone,

while the middle east unhinged,

and i gently explored

your discarded lover

on the chaise lounge…

The moment,

so vacuous in its

immediacy and during

its happening,

gains inertia.

The numbers add up

to totals,

running on

the months of

obituaries in the Times.

U know, he could have been anyone

our age and down there.

He could have been me.

He could have been you.

Taut Ontological Processing

Yes, itz true.. i have a history of neurotically fixating on things... no.. i am not OCD.. I am far too messy and lazy to be properly anal-retentive, and i have problems with commitment, which an obsessive-compulsion necessarily requires*..  and i am not ADD -  i just don't have that kind of energy or the related skeewhompus visual issues.. what i have, i think, is simple chronic insomnia and a hyper-resourced braine that doesnt reboot, or reset variables very efficiently... what i have is i think...  cogito cogito cogito cogito ergo perdita sum cogito cogito cogito cogito...

*(spontaneous, one of a kind compulsions are rampant and indulged, tho)

Chemical Weapons Experiments

We have been researching it.. we have been documenting it... reviewing evidence and structuring our opinions about it.  But now, I have undeniable proof - gathered via firsthand scientific investigation - that alcohol is a TOXIN... and showz great promise as an instrument of war, provided  the appropriate doses can be administered...  Experiments with dosage and titration will continue, in the future...  after much sleep and rehydration...

sux that i have somewhat blown my wknd tho - it truly only consisted of today - must werk vry much tomorrow...

thatz ok, reading around the bloghorn neighborhood, and i find i am not necessarily the only one who tied one on yesterday...

At first, I was a little concerned by the whole trial by secret military tribunal thing.. but after a little research, I think things could be a lot werse...

Tools 4 NWO

Growing up, my bro and I fought until someone was bleeding well into our teenage years.  I am still not exactly sure what changed that... maybe it was having to share a car in high school.  The rules of engagement were always changing...  some so slowly that you had time to project their trajectory,  others so quickly you hardly noticed until it was done...

(I am outa pocket today....  so not a lotta spontaneous blogging will be going down due to lack of web access.  But I will whale on this thing tonite after they cut me loose.)

For Ur Safety...

... you should know that the passenger seated in row 23 seat A is 60 days behind on his mortgage...  (please note that information regarding this passenger was "passively" gathered, and in no way infringes on his civil liberties).

UPDATE:  You will also be glad to know that safety measures are likewise being implemented in your neighborhood mall!  Shop peacefully*!!

bLAWg-o-licious fruit

This is the beauty part of most western legal systems - we live within boundaries set by the logic of precedent.  When building a case, for instance, this gives rise to such lovely catch phrases as "fruit of the poison tree"... ok, i confess, i just wanted to use that phrase (and, if i can get away with it, the phrase "fruit don't fall far from the tree")...

well, now that i got that outa my system.. consider how the logic of precedence might apply to this fruit... and consequently (if petitioned and argued responsibly), these fresher fruits...

What U Can Do

Strange dreams of being armless, somehow incapacitated (yet entirely TOO conscious), mute/gagged, bound/strapped in speeding train and/or ballistically endowed carrier of some sort... and, well, I ain't Freud, but it doesn't take too much heavy analysis to see that I am feeling sorta powerless these days..  All those years of therapy have prepared me, though - I have developed my coping mechanisms, and they are fully engaged.  In case such mechanisms might be useful for our regular reading audience (there are @ 4 of you who are returning users, according to our site stats!*), I will outline those strategies that can be implemented without the aid of repeated $175 sessions:

  1. When weird shit starts oozing out the walls and crevices of your reality, simply put hands over your ears (or eyes - whichever works 4 you), and repeat "This is not happening, this is not happening, this is not happening..." until you are sufficiently distracted from the creepy things to maintain your original bearings.  (Sometimes this procedure is aided by a assuming a fetal position and bobbing back and forth in a semi-autistic fashion).
  2. If you find that events or circumstances lead you to question whether or not your faith in divinity (of G*D or humanity, or otherwise) is well-founded, and reason no longer suffices to alleviate the shakiness, seek community with faithful believers and model their example.
  3. Should the reasoning portion of your brain continually act up and interfere with your daily functioning, rather than lapsing into a solipsistic apathy, seek recreation of some sort .  The philosopher Hume, for instance, worked his anxieties out via Billiards - so become involved in a hobby, or take up arts and crafts.
  4. Remember that you cannot control the universe, so consciously try limit your neurotic preoccupations only to those elements of your life that you, yourself, can impact.  For instance, if you are fixating on strange noises your car engine is making, plan a course of action that you could realistically implement (i.e., I will get a mechanic to look at it next Tues, after I get paid), rather than phreaking on unknowables (i.e., what if the transmission is about to go?!?  what if it costs thousands of dollars?!?  what if the engine is infested with flying gremlins?!?).

*A professor of mine once told me that my writing was good, yet so inaccessible that I would likely only achieve a small (but dedicated) posthumous cult following... Although I am yet very much pre-humous, I think this validates his assessment.
